"Justice is a Gray Area"

by Max Phineas

Shades of gray
Outlined by mystery
Moral compass spins wildly
There is no Ethical North.

The glare of glowing balls of lies
So blinding
When all you need is shade from
the spoken Haze.

Right and wrong
play Twister and Tag
Tangled in each other just so
it is impossible to separate the two.

Screams ringing in your ears
From both sides
You need to clear your mind
Try to find
Peace.

The decision aches in your skull
You waver on the fence posts
Hold your breath
Count to ten
Because sometimes you just have to let go

and

JUMP.

Sometimes jumping is the scariest thing of all, even when the ground is only down the next stair. I have a card (oh, it's somewhere around here buried in the junk) that says, "Serenity isn't peace apart from the storm, but peace amidst the storm" (or something similar to that). It's when the black-and-white thinking of life gets to us that we need to remember the shades of gray, setting us apart from other people. We can be unique in our feelings - and then jumping, no matter what it is, becomes less of an ordeal. It appears you've stated this in the situations you present in the poem.
