Match of the Century

by Maria Francesca

So we meet again -
me, with my cheap plastic pen,
You with your evenly spaced lines.

Me, with determination
and a small amount of panic
in my eyes;
You, effortlessly blank
and unconcerned.

Look at you -
just sitting there
staring emptily at me,
apparently unaware
that this is an entirely uneven match;

I have at my command
years of childhood angst
and all that the public education system
had to offer

while your only weapon
is my insecurity.

Perhaps I could take up photography.
