you topia

by Maria Francesca

there are places in this world -

places where the air is effervescent,
where the soil is more alive.

in places such as these,
anything is possible;
standard rules do not apply.

every square inch there
equals four.
up is up there
but then, so is down.

in places such as these
the boundaries of imagination
are only the starting point.

I have longed all my life
for such a place -
ached to plant my feet within its borders,
my heart within its embrace

yearning in futility

until the moment my tired eyes
found yours.

Just when I think I have found this place the ground falls out from under me, but I LOVE the poem and the few seconds I am allowed to stand!

You secretly carry the reader skyward, ascending towards imagination, then suddenly let go. Yet the reader floats safely downwards, towards the fertile soil - from which all possiblilty springs.
