Raft Life by Jeffrey Parrenriding this raft of life
tumultuous waves
never-ending sunlight
cascade upon a withering soul
at onset, the raft held true
calm seas felt
fresh paint deflecting
brackish water, glistening
as the day wore on
the raft became cautious
bolts for support loosened
seeping aboard; penetrating
the waves did come
splashing beyond the barrier
engulfing with pressure
innocence and inexperience
the sun did come
erasing negative replenishment
into thin air it did go
yet, good things compiled
the raft became arid
shriveling up, aging
so quickly, the raft's engine
sputtering
with that last put, put, put
nightfall scoured the ocean
the waves receded
moonlit funeral 01/02/2006 Author's Note: *Archive
