Love, By Any Other Name by Jeffrey Parren"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet." -From Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)
Love is in the eye of the beholder
Love, by any other name,
Love, by any other word,
Would be felt all the same.
Clich351d as it may,
Love casts upon the many
Yet withering and dying
Love is, with progress of time.
Does not a mother love?
A gentle touch, white gloves
As she gives the baby away
Finding little adoption delay.
Does not a father love?
A sport intended shove
Of a son who likes ballet
Thinking he is gay.
Does not a wife love?
Dressed in white, a dove.
Until honeymoon ends
Dollar signs she befriends.
Does not a husband love?
Singing to the high octave
With another he cheats
Of a woman he beats.
Does not a pedophile love?
Licking his lips, standing above
His latest victim, stealing
Future, begin the healing.
When all is said and done
Creeps upon us definition unsung
Love is all but a matter of opinion
For the universe; time to cheapen. 01/04/2006 Author's Note: *Archive - I don't know if I really like this one...
