Insomnia

by Jeffrey Parren

In those sleepless nights
I do so ponder things unanswered
Searching with reason
Like walking around a dark house
Carrying a mental flashlight
Watching the moments of reflection
Scurry away like rats.

Days and nights orgasm
Where even marriage blushes
Insomnia is my creature
That I ride my ideas of fortune
Recount and narrate
The days already happened
Yet not equaling now.

Wrapped in this comforter
Typing at this keyboard
Words splash onto this screen
Recollections so missed fill my fingertips
They want to run wild on this paper
Wasted words they would only be
Tears washed away before, before, and again.

So as I pass another orgasmic mix
Where night and day collide
My insomnia has won
Better yet, my mind has busied itself
Beyond inflection of dreams
Countless memories keep me floundering
So does pass my youthful days.
