Platinum

by Richard Vince

She is oblivious to his yearning eyes
Following her as she walks by.
She concerns herself with simple things
Instead, keeping her eyes focussed
On the reality of the afternoon ahead.

It was her hair: a ray of spurious sunshine,
Standing proud of the dull hues
Of his everyday existence, that
He could scarcely ignore.

At that moment began the countdown.
The trickle of second after second
As she browsed, considered, strolled,
Turned this way and that, and
He hoped she would find something,
Anything that would bring her to
His till so he might know
The secret of her eyes.

That avalanche of thoughts and hopes
Is inaudible to her, locked away
In all she has to do, multi tasking
Yet single minded.

Two eyes meet two eyes:
One pair searching, the other
Refusing to be found, colours merging,
Blending, dynamic patterns forming
And reforming.

Nothing is found but a desire
To remain hidden, and surprise
That someone has looked beyond
The brilliant disguise and
Realised there is someone there.

He believes she will forget him
Just as surely as he believes he will
Never forget her. She remembers
The simple things: being looked
For instead of looked at.

So I'm getting "blondes have more fun"...? lol Kidding. Nice piece. Love the last couple of lines.

Strangely, this seems to reinforce the stereotype by its very divergence :) Perhaps a self-fulfilling fallacy? An obssessive persistence illustrated with some eye-catching images, like the single-minded multitasking. I feel compelled to ask, is it not possible that the pusuit of yearning eyes could be classed as one of those 'simple things' from her perspective? Nevertheless, the challenge is met, and respect conquers all in the end...:)
