Catch A Glimpse

by Jeffrey Parren

i wrote this now
straight from my mind
stream of frustration
i bend over
grasp the cool water
manage to catch a glimpse
of my eye

the age showed true
the greys and blues
blended together, dulling
perceptions aged

no microsoft word
no spell check
who cares if I spelled "spelled"
incorrectly

ok I do

but I still didn't use it
just like I haven't used my mind
in the longest time
like I haven't used my heart
for the longest time

this is starting to sound
as if a song were playing
I hate the word "like"
but only when used to describe
like now
or like almost like green
or like ten years ago

you get the idea

I suppose I will get the idea sooner or later
maybe I will die before
maybe I won't
all I do know
every step of the way I kicked in dismay
I really cannot recall happiness
what it feels like

the water in the cup of my hand looks cool
refreshing
I think I will splash it on my face
wash away all the pain
