Last Glimpse

by Alisa Js

There was a need in her voice that came
From a joy long forgotten,
Packed away and folded just out of sight
Wrapped in silks and fine, flowing linens
Stacked and placed there
Top shelf, far right …

Among her memories of living the dream,
Sunshine and hints of a wintertime smile
Intimate jokes just for two,
Eagerness and anticipation at the thought of his name
Desire too bold for this world to believe …

All safe and secure where no one will disturb
This legacy fit for a queen,
Royalty
Excellence
Bar none ..

She dusts off her hands and lays down the shovel
Not much more to do here,
Picking up the ice pick
She takes a last look around,
Better yet
She pulls out a gun …
