A Simple Name

by Charles M Harrison

Mama
may be the first word
her little ones will speak.

As she holds them
in her warm embrace
to gently kiss their cheek.

Mommy
she will hear more often
as her young ones age.

Her love
is there to guide them
as they enter each different stage.

Mother
is the name most heard
in the teenage years.

Often said
with disrespect
in ways that cause her tears.

Mom
is what she will hear
on a phone from far away.

When her children
remember to call
on each holiday.

Grandmother
Grandma, or granny
as the circle is complete.

As the cycle
of wisdom and love
will continue and repeat.

Seasons change
time moves forward.
her love stays the same.

It resides within
someone as large as life
but with such a simple name.

Charles, this is great! I love the progression of the name changes. Very well done. :)
