Good Morning from the Beach by Tony Whitaker
Sea breeze on skin
six a.m.
into the wind
no body in sight
Overcast skies
still the night
morning with a grin
warm running
DawnÂ’s light
caressing fluffed clouds
seeing distant smiles
from within
Closing eyes
breathing beach
waves demise
relieving weight
hear its sighs?
Dampened sand
sand fleas mine
beneath sneakered feet
keeping time
to tunes in mind
Tiny splashes
tides brim
wet foot falls
spills the rim
Then a call
three four time
chills the spine
“Only
Fools
Rush
In”
I stop
Walk
Heart felt sing
a special Elvis
Man as king
Wise man say
from the beach
The dawn rings
05/11/2007 Author's Note: A little self-indulgent piece I wrote in my head on my 7-mile run on the beach. My favorite is the last stanza which contains more messages then the lines imply. And, yes, as a former Elvis impersonator, at work functions and with our part-time band (now you can chuckle), I had to stop and give this one a good wail as I strolled and sang, by those beautiful homes, on Hilton Head beach. Sorry if I woke anyone up!

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 05/11/07 at 05:27 PM Love the wide open run of this, there's a lot of song and the Elvis thing... but best of all, I love this... just you ..."Closing eyes
i hear the sighs/
relieving weight/
the wave’s demise" It feels just like that... |
Posted by Sandy M. Humphrey on 05/15/07 at 01:03 PM I love this, there is movement and sound and as I sit in the midwest I can feel the ocean spray and wish I too could hear the sighs as I walked (I don't run) along the beach. beautiful. smh |
