I Mourn the Theist's Mind

by Maria Francesca

I sadly smile and shake my head
and mourn the theist's mind
who condescends to foster
his beliefs on all mankind.
He who thinks these precious years
are only preparation;
Who shakes his beads and sheds his tears
and preaches of damnation.
No thought or care for other views,
he clings to his nobility;
for all his saintly words, eschews
all semblance of humility.
He preaches his agenda,
so righteous, so intense,
and sadly pats me on the head
if I should take offense.

I know my words are harsh
and can be taken as unkind;
But 'til he respects my right to think
I'll mourn the theist's mind.

Author's Note: I am not, in actuality, an atheist. But I believe, almost religiously, that every person must find his own truth, and I have no patience at all for people who insist upon fostering their dogmatic views upon other people. If I offend, I opologise. But I do not recant.
