Reflections

by Alisa Js

there was a familiar lilt in her voice
something about her comforted me,
could have been the bee in my pocket, not sure ...

the crusty scales fell away
and I knew I could love her forever
or maybe hate is a better word
it irked me,
how gorgeous she was without even trying ...

I managed to remain calm, cool and collected
attempted my best at mindless chit-chatter,
inside I was fuming!
how dare she think she knew all about me
this image in the mirror, now glaring ...

I'd show her, I thought
and picked up the blade,
carefully I cut straight across that beautiful face
now frozen in horror,
I stood nearby as the blood dripped, bright red ...
