after illness

by Peter Humphreys

the river
is
slow
and low
today

the flow
tinkle
tangles
o'er
half dry rocks

my path
is
almost
almost
o'ergrown

foot shy
flowers
trick
my way
with
yellow suns
green bindings
white shy
blue dazzlers

below
my ducks
a family
new
drift by

three bright
one slight
all
growing

it must be
the third season
now
yes three Springs
have flowered
past mine eyes

and yet
for the
first time
a vine
blooms
purple light
above
the cottage door
that could have been
my home

Hi Peter. Glad you are on the mend. Your last verse is so beautifully mysterioso. Wonderful language. Best to you.

The imagery is beautiful and gives a true sense of a new season yet time passing. Feels like hope and a healing will occur. smh

Exquisite, and I hear echoes of Yeats that I love... not swans though, "ducks". I like the "tingle tangled" and I wanted to read "locks there... where are the "rocks"...a lovely ovetone I think. The freshness of color and perspective "after illness" is captured here... as well as the past and present hovering and mixing in lush natural overgrowth.
