The Love Trials

by Elizabeth Seago

I apologize for taking for granted your eyes
And for the astonishing size
Of my surprise
At your love for
Mine.

For my doubt in
Our alibis who swore we had
Synchronized our swim of
Harmonized bliss.

Countless nights I've died
Trying to find all your heart hides
from these weary eyes.
While all the while it was my
Heart and it's abounding
Denial.
I had put your words on trial.
And in this case, records of you had never been filed
(Thank God that secretary has been fired.) It was your number I could never bring my heart to dial
Because there was something too sincere about your smile
And I refused to be the reason you'd look at love as vile.

So Please Excuse My Dear Denial
Which has placed between us a good few miles
But I swear on what's left that I'd drop these charges
Just you see your bleeding heart smile.
