Welcome to the Book of Me

by Maria Francesca

Welcome to the book of Me.

I will admit
I am surprised that you bothered
to open my cover;

after all,
my title isn't really catchy
and the cover art
is less than compelling.

Still,
I think you'll find me both topical
and humorous.

So, let's get started, shall we?

First thing you should know:
There is no table of contents.
No chapters, either.

I figure
if you could divide me
neatly into parts
you might skip the darker ones
and how can you share in my triumphs
(and there are triumphs)
if you didn't read about the struggles?

So just start at the beginning, okay?

Turn my pages,
one by one,
while I turn yours.

We'll read each other slowly, carefully,
the way we were meant to be read -
the way we both were written

and if we find
that our syntax is compatible

maybe we can mix our storylines,
become volumes
of the same encyclopedia,

maybe just synonyms
of each other.

On the other hand,
if we find that our plots
don't work well together

we'll both still be
richer,
smarter,
deeper
for the read.

So welcome to the book of Me;
turn my pages gently,
one by one.

Let me into your mind.
Let me into your heart.
Let me into your pages

and I promise
you won't regret you did.

REALLY excellent! I loved the way this is laid out. The ending is wonderful!

"and I promise you won't regret you did." And you didn't lie! spiky red high heeled shoes... What a riot!
