Geography is Irrelevant

by Susan Q Tomas

Go.
Said God to Abram.
Leave your family, friends,
Leave your home of Haran.

He lived there over 70 years.
Left the familiar, all he knew.
Father, mother, sisters, brothers,
Not knowing where he was going to.

The rabbi said
To follow me
You must give away all
And abandon family.

No idols need be carried,
No church, shrine, nor temple.
Wherever you go I am there
I, God, fully portable.

Author's Note: I wish I still had the notes as to which passage in the bible inspired this poem. But today, I read it again, and it has new meaning for me. This is very relevant to my life today.
