Husband

by Joe Cramer

You told her that I was your husband!

The words slipped out so easily,

Hung there for a moment of acknowledgment

Then quickly melted into such obscurity.

I longed for the day when that fact is true

Waiting for exactly the right moment.

I would have wed you on the 'morrow, as you knew,

Which is why you shared such sweet thoughts.

My wedding bed now lies far from my grave.

Author's Note: I once fell deeply in love with a married woman, who played me for the fool.....
