Equation [a "Pi Poem"]

by Bruce W Niedt

 I
can’t seem to solve
you.
I’d like to prove we
have a common denominator.
But you
are the variable,
my equation’s x.
Your power
is exponential
over me. It’s irrational,
I know, but you are my prime number.
I’d like to intersect, but
You treat me as imaginary.
May I add,
 I’m so
divided –
my problems only multiply
when I’m near you.
I can’t subtract you from
my mind.
The geometry
of your body,
your smile’s arc –
all proof that
you’re perfect. I’m so glad you’re in
my math class.
You think
I’m square. No problem – I’ll love
you till infinity. Go figure.

Author's Note: [A contrived form with the following premise: the number of syllables in each line (including, in this case, the title) are dictated by the digits of pi, i.e. 3.141592653589793238462643383279.... So the title has three syllables, the first line one syllable, the second line four, etc. You can use letters, syllables or words as your construct, depending on what works best. I'm not sure who thought this up - I found it on a writing prompt website.]

Bravo! I tried one of these in a creative writing group once but we were given the words we had to weave into it. With one theme, and it of course being mathematical, it's awesome! Encore... Encore...

Well..... I know that I can't really figure out the lagistics of the whole thing. But it sure is cute! Gave me a giggle anyway... so Thanks!

Excellent play on words. I looked this form up yesterday, along with many others. It's incredible how we (poets) can transform math into our own uses, but then again, artists have been doing it for centuries.
