under the volcano by Peter Humphreysunder
the volcano
they follow
the man
with
the whitened face
and flowing cloak
into
the gloom filled
mist
and
in that act of faith
that
leads
past churches
empty
they long
for thrills
and
bloodless spills
not
tales of the almighty
for
harmless fun
is why they've come
not
to feel the spirit
moving
as rolling mist
between
the stones
and
over warm dried
bones
their future
still
awaits
them

Author's Note: The old centre of Edinburgh is located on an ancient volcanic plug. Come dusk it is full of ghost and other 'spine-chilling' tourist trails through the narrow streets.
