gravity

by William P Strucke

i can not write any more
can't think any longer
can't breathe any deeper

an anvil pressing down
can't smell you any more
can't breathe this thick air
i can't turn off the lights
and i can't keep them on
the pain is bearable;

..but i can't stave my thirst
ten gallons of water
and not a drop to drink

this idle, dank moment
lonely and forgotten
like a laugh underwater
no one knows it exists

i envy your silence
you don't hear the whispers
thrusting in a panic
a heavy weight on my chest

(silence)

i await your reply.
