Clonakilty Connor

by Dave Fitzgerald

I knew a man called Connor Gilty
Who came from a town called Clonakilty.
He cried so much over milk he spilt he
Washed it all away!

He was a man who worried so
He thought what he'd reap was what he'd sow.
He didn't know whether to stay or go
Because his life was just that way.

He saw Mary Sullivan by the brook
And into her eyes he couldn't look.
He just looked down and her hand he took
And she never took it away.

Mary said, "Connor, I love you.
I love your red hair and your eyes of blue
I know you love me and that I love you
That's all you have to say!"

So Connor said "Mary, would you marry me?
I'll build us a house down by the sea,
I know I love you and that you love me.
There's only one word you can say!."

From that moment on he was a different man.
He was altogether stronger holding Mary's hand.
They smiled at each other with a wedding to plan
On a beautiful summers day.

So they married each other two years on,
For Connor and Mary all the worries were gone.
Eleven kids later and their marriage rolled on
Forever and a day.

I really like the style in this, the way each stanza ends in particular. Wonderful writing, sir.

I know what it's like to be stronger holding the hand of love.
