spring by Peter Humphreysdid you
did you
did you really
did you really
feel it
the slightest
wisp
and stirring
on our cheeks
your hair
moved
slightly
gently
as
in the morning
when we
awaken
did you
did you really
did you really
see it
first on the tips
and tops
of the fir trees
then the elder
stirred
with leaves atremble
then the blossom
petals
falling
one
two
maybe
three
did you really
did you really
hear it
over the
dull thrum
of the distant road
like
a leafless autumn
but the chime
by the kitchen door
tinkled
at an unseen guest
no-one stirring
the door
open
did you really
smell it
the smell of
seed
and
egg
of frond
and
dangling
catkins
early blooming
the smell
the sound
the sight
the feel
of sperming
worming
burgeoning
life
under a
star lit
canopy
just
wonder

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 04/10/07 at 01:32 AM Hi Peter. This one has legs! Very exciting, and its own inflorescence, right here on the page. Thanks. |
Posted by Dave Fitzgerald on 04/14/07 at 12:00 PM I did! especially the last bit about the smells. Smell of seasons take me back to childhood. Cheers Peter |
