A Candle

by Rhonda Maneki

I lit a candle today,
It was your birthday
and yet, your not here.
My arms ache to hold you,
my heart holds you always,
cherished, so close...so close...

I remember the day you were born,
5:58 am - I remember your cry,
Your beautiful angelic face,
Your amazing energy so gentle,
so tender our bond.
How I loved you, then and now,
now no less than then.

I walked to the Church
this morning in a quietness,
the air was filled with mist,
as if nature knew my burden today
she shared it. I lit
several candles in prayer.

One for Him,
One for thankfulness,
and yours...

As I lit
your candle,
I sang softly -
Happy Birthday,

Quietly I whisperd,
for you my baby,
love mommy.

In that moment,
I felt your arms
around my heart
letting me know
you heard me.

I miss you, as only
a mother could,
with all I'm
I miss you,
and will forever
love you.

Author's Note: my son died of a ravenous cancer when he was 12 - one cell divided by 10 every minute - on his birthday...I remember.

A beautiful Birthday prayer, Rhonda. One that I'm sure your son received. He is surrounded by angels who sing with you.
