Rockies

by Steven Craig

Sad to think that the great Rocky Mountains
Where my soul loves to dwell
Is no longer rising
For on their flanks are the crumbling remains
of hearts long steps
footfalls that have been masked by the snow for millennia
slowly end in a moment of danger
where lives are claimed and seen no more

There is a place where some have climbed
and been personally involved
in the passage of such time and place
There is a time
where the climber will be there
but that one last time,
and shall be seen near never again

There is ancient stored power there
BUT is it old and no longer a passion
A place is just another place
even when it is the heart
and soul of just one life
A home
an abode
a haven
a harbor in the clouds
in a sky that knows no rain.

Sad to think that mountains fail.
But then,
it is of no consequence that I do also.

Wow! You know the mountains and the sea! I used to live in NJ and was on the board of a historical society. We were developing a 13 acre marine historical village at the North end of Atlantic City with the city and the Ocianic Society. I now live about 50 miles from Jackson Wy and love it. The mountains give so much and take only what you give them as does the ocean! Great write.
