Desolation

by Joe Cramer

My life reeks of desolation

Smelling worse by the day.

The hours pass without elation

My mind wanders in this way.

The lonely hours draw nigh

Through the quiet of the night.

I am left fraught, wondering why

I go on, without a fight.

Ugh! This emotion feels familiar. :( Nice job in hitting the nail on the head, Joe.

Glad you reposted this one. So many times I've felt this way, yet the pits smooth out and I'm on the mountain top again. The last line is especially telling, because it's a question only a person who's in that emotional morass can answer. The answer lies within and comes from the fact that there is never a complete lack of hope -even in death promises exist.
