hitchhiking

by Maria Francesca

if you're very still
you can feel the difference
in the movement
of the air -

not some furious gust
or even a gentle breeze;

it's more subtle than that.

it's like
hearing a motor
coming from over the horizon

and you can't tell
if it's a big engine
at a great distance

or if it's nearer
and just very small

but either way
it's getting closer

and I don't know why
but I think it's something good.

so instead of scrambling
to get out of the way

I think
I'm going to
step into the middle of the road

and put out my thumb.

Very nice, Maria! It makes me envious of people who can just stick their thumb out to catch the next ride and move on to the next phase in their lives. My worries & fears keep me standing on the side of the road, watching the cars pass by. I am building up my courage though. So maybe I'll wave as we pass each other on the highway some day! :) "I think it's something good" = A great way to live life!
