Maps and Keys

by Ken Harnisch

Some quivering apprehension has its grips on me
And knowing my own heart very well
I can tell yours is leaving soon
On some inevitable journey of discovery
That will take you deep into another’s heart and soul.

Hmm, and what can I say to that, except good luck
I have no right to cling;
To call you back;
To lay claim to your time or life
Except as an acquaintance
And as the sage you think I am.
Well, thank you for that
But my days of dispensing wisdom like tabs of Pez are gone
Some rude awakening has kidnapped me
Some wisdom, salted with experience,
Has cast a spell on my inner ear.
What ever you are to me
(And I don’t believe all the superlatives have been written yet)
You will be the last of that cherished few
Who had the maps and keys
To a portal I’m putting chains on when you’re gone.

The things (objects) is this poem raise it to a level above... the maps, keys and pez dispenser...make it original and memorable and really tug at the heart. The "spell" and the "superlatives" are excellent too. I think with a heart as big as yours... it breaks the chains though!

It still makes me cry to read, and my heart ache a bit too. How many I wonder who read and do not comment can relate to this in way's they can't even explain. Past may be past... but it was the journey along that road, with or without a map that makes today what it is... hum? *hugs* good to read a pocket full of....
