Why do boat people wave?

Isn't this exactly the way

We should all behave?

So friendly are they,

Even in times of stress or peril.

Typically, boat people

Are a friendly lot.

Perhaps it is because

They are going in different directions.

I think it's because they are all out

Enjoying their lives.

So I wave back.
