Underneath Our Northern Sky

by Thomas K. Hunt

I’m sending you this photograph
It’s me, looking back at you
Thought it would bring a smile
Seventy six, two months past June

Look deep within the photograph
Deep within the eyes
See the content that lies there
Underneath our northern sky

Happy in my red Hawaiian
Slightly buzzed and feeling high
Played with innocence among the islands
Underneath our northern sky

Faces still remain there
Smiling eyes that have seen me cry
Souls that really do care
Living underneath our northern sky

Roots of deep grown memories
Living back behind the eyes
Fragments of another time
Underneath our northern sky

Look deep within the photograph
Know that life behind the eyes
Know the reason you possess it
Underneath our northern sky

I hope you get this photograph
Just once, may it pass your eyes
It was taken just for you
Underneath our northern sky

Let your smile surround you
I’ll shed another tear and cry
Tell the world over breakfast
Underneath our northern sky

There will come a day you’ll see me smile
You won’t even have to try
On the river with all our friends
Underneath our northern sky
