haikus of california. by Meghan Helmichthe cream heat does spread
over my skin when i lie
flat, all eyelashes.
it is going back,
with peace, to a dirty womb.
it is being there.
breathing foreign hopes
in beds of sand and plastic.
like growing outside.
i bend over my
chest in places i used to
slide through, belly down.
hazel courderoy
darkens the wrinkles, leaves hair
falling from thick rounds.
carpet and concrete
hold the mud of the foot steps.
and my hands fit there. 03/10/2007 Posted on 03/10/2007 Copyright © 2025 Meghan Helmich

Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 03/14/07 at 02:22 AM wow. i love the thought of combined haikus to capture the essence of one, big state. this is unique x10. on top of it all, the vocabulary here is sensational...not over the top, but pretty enough to make it poetic and sensual in a way. then again i could be way wrong, which i usually am. either way...it's quite pretty. a+ |
