see the goddess by Maria Francescasee the goddess on her throne
never spends the night alone
luscious lips
and supple hips
and scarlet colored fingertips
and legs from here to Timbuktu -
back off, boy,
she's not for you.
see the goddess 'neath her crown
never wrinkles,
never frowns,
never worries,
never cries -
just crooks her finger,
bats her eyes
and surely, gently, moves the world
but never will she be your girl.
see the goddess, cool and bright,
glowing with an inner light;
but light can't catch you when you fall -
the truth is no one's there at all
for light can't hear
or love
or see -
I'm waiting, boy,
come home to me.
see this goddess, dull but warm,
riding out another storm;
watching while she makes an art
of stomping on your foolish heart;
waiting 'til she's finally through
and hating her
for hurting you.
see this goddess, (silly girl),
reeling while you spin my world.
see this goddess waiting here,
crying crystal goddess tears.
see this goddess if you can
or walk away a lonely man. 06/09/2006 Author's Note: *

Posted by Angela Nuzzo on 02/26/07 at 10:51 AM Maria, this is brilliant! The flow of the lines and the progression of the stanzas is great. The last couplet is perfect. Nice job! |
