for you

by Matthew Sharp

have i lost you to the lull?
i seek for where you went just to bring you back
but you test me
then call me a failure

why are you so afraid of being alone?
it's all you've ever been
your blind hopes have frustrated you into depression
and i miss you
i miss you with every try.

Great ending here. So simple and yet so original. I have never seen it put this way. "i miss you/i miss you with every try" --in the sense of aiming-- you've really expressed something here. Even if all else fails (and I certainly hope not)... this poem and especially that phrasing, is wonderful. I read those last two lines aloud to my husband, and he was impressed too. Really finely put.
