as a child, I'd never wash my hair; I would go weeks.
I'd pull it up in a ponytail to hide the knots.
I knew how dirty it was, but nothing could be felt, for I was masking the pain by forsaking cleanliness.

interesting revelation. i hated washing my hair because it always stood straight out when it dried.
