blessed tequila bottle

by Maria Francesca

there are no librarians in there,
telling me to shush
or scolding me for late returns.

there are no bills in there, either,
or late notices
or final warnings;

no yapping neighbor-dogs
or blinking check-engine lights;

no disappointing report cards,
no traffic jams,
no inscrutable bosses
or unflattering swimsuits.

there is only
an ocean of oblivion in there,
held in check
by an easily defeated
screw-on cap;

that,
and a dead
and grinning worm.

AMEN. I am not religious but I do believe if we prayed to tequila I think I could manage to save some time on Sundays for giving back...~JPP
