it went from 'our place' to 'no place'
in real time,
jumped from the start line
and finished dead last,
when did the flares splash and sputter that signaled?
what happened to all that in between?
I find myself rambling around this dark biway
this highway to no way
I'm stunned,
or rather not really confused
as I should have known better than to believe ...

springtime is cold this time of year
summer is somewhere,
on vacation, I think
a holiday so soon?
and we just had our winter
chilly nights huddled in depths of conjecture ...

you ask why I'm cynical
I'll tell you the answer,
Christmas passed right by this New Year
blew away those chapters I couldn't wait to get to
tossed out now with the rest,
and I'm left with this outline
of structure
trying in some way to figure out nonsense ...
