Mardi Gras

by Joe Cramer

Once again, I miss New Orleans

As the Lenten season draws near.

I miss the parades, the charades, the crowds

Maybe even a city so queer

In its impression upon the world

That some idiot said "bulldoze it"

In the aftermath of Katrina.

New Orleans still holds my heart

The place of my birth.

So much joie de vive, frivolity

So much laughter and mirth.

March on parades, krewes and balls

Stay away if je ne sais quoi is not for you

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Author's Note: The colors of Mardi Gras are purple, green and gold.... let the good times roll...

I got the visual right away. Nice job, great tribute. I think I'm inspired to write a tribute to my hometown, Milwaukee.
