Untitled and I hate this.

by Shannon Adele

pours
coffee
down her throat
as if it were Treblinka
1942

and I quick
wonder
if she just
pencils those numbers daily

and hate myself after.

And I hate these visits.
So mandatory

So nice

that your own mother
can’t possibly scratch
a moment of time
into her own busy forearm.

You know, gay men refuse to eat popsicles in the summer.
It’s true.

Did you know that Coca Cola used to be green?
Really.

In Georgia chickens are all black. Never white.
Hand to God.

And I can’t help but think

Maybe John Pemberton
had it wrong

And maybe some can’t
endure the sugary cold
against dry heat

And that somehow
down south
chickens forgot
that white isn’t always bad.

It's actually quite entertaining, Shannon. Title it! :)
