Dirty Water Lagoon

by Meagan Green

There were archives of trees, all lined up
to wait for me. The birds and bees
sang to me,
down there in the dirty water lagoon.

The smell of seaweed, the smell of sand
and no sea; Too hard to comprehend,
too easy to agree.

The smell of marijuana, the smell of wind
and no breeze. It tried to help me understand,
but did not set me free.

The smell of seaweed, the smell of sand
and no me; Too hard to comprehend,
too easy not to see.

I tried to recall what it meant to me
but it never came along.
The water just stood still, unprepared
for a speck of dust to do it wrong.

There were hints of disease hiding gently
In the reeds. The birds and bees
got their speed
down there in the dirty water lagoon.
