To Thee

by Mark Maxey

To thee I do wed
is what my pa said that day
he worked hard to make sure we were fed
honest way for an honest pay
he taught me to be a man

my ma was the youngest of four
raised in a family of farmers
she was a beauty but oh so poor
but her wedding dress was of the finest garments

To thee I do wed
is what my pa said that day
he worked hard to make sure we were fed
honest way for an honest pay
he taught me to be a man

we were raised to be in church
the preacher was just a simple man
he spoke on how the Lord could stop the hurt
we just had to reach out our hand

To thee I do wed
is what my pa said that day
he worked hard to make sure we were fed
honest way for an honest pay
he taught me to be a man

he said grace over my dads coffin
a good man that worked so hard
but the one who knew it the most
was my ma that heard his truth
when my pa said To thee I do wed

To thee I do wed
is what my pa said that day
he worked hard to make sure we were fed
honest way for an honest pay
he taught me to be a man

one day a few years later
I too got to say those words
for so long had I dated her
and I pray that I am just a man as my pa had been

To thee I do wed
is what my pa said that day
he worked hard to make sure we were fed
honest way for an honest pay
he taught me to be a man
