A Valentine to Everyone Here

by Mary Ellen Smith

I made a valentine today

Thought of something nice to say.

Wrote it out in sweet repose

This or that about a rose.

Trimmed the heart with tatted lace

It put a smile upon my face.

Thought I then about my deed

As I glued on pearled seed

As I glittered up the red

A profound thought came to my head.

What’s in the heart can’t be measured

By a paper crafted treasure.

By the words that we might pen

We try though over and again.

So I’ll just write that my heart is brimming

And with this paper heart I’m trimming,

All I really want to say

Is have a happy love filled day!

Great use of rhyme, Mary Ellen! This reminded me of being in grade school and decorating our little bags for the classroom Valentine's party. :)
