You love me, You love me not, You love me.

by Rhonda Maneki

When we were four, summer
seemed to last forever.
Your golden curls, so soft
and bouncy, shone with
sun upon every strand.
Ah, and your blue eyes
with galaxy's captured
within them dazzled me.
I kept watching the
changing reflections,
of light your eyes a
kaleidescope of emotion.

I thought you were handsome,
even then, even so young.
I dreamed, you were my
fairytale prince. I often
pretended to be your princess.

You took my hand, so shyly,
we smiled at each other,
so tenderly the shyness
touched both of us,
for that particular brief moment.

The shyness slipped
away within the brightness
a shared smile.

We ran though fields of
long tall grass, A whispers
breath of summer breeze
carried upon it tendrils
of laughter, taunting more
to the surface as tiny
iridescent bubbles of happiness,
floating to the far reaches
of childhood.

I showed you all my secret
places. My fairy tree which was
nestled upon a bank, by a rippling
brook, you saw the fairy's too
as they frolicked though the
limbs and leaves,playing hide and
seek catching sunbeams an intricate
flirtation of light and shadow.

Then we lay beneath the noonday sky,
we watched clouds drift lazily by,
painted by a gentle brush of imagination.

We had picked long stemmed daisy's,
I sat beside you, floating white
angelic petals one by one upon your
cheeks,I watched them settle
in your golden curls.
You simply smiled at me
while I sang...

"You love me, You love me not, You love me"

The Daisy always seemed to say
" You love me"

But, I know something special about our game!
I bet you thought, i never knew the secret of
last fallen petal, this very last petal
that would fall to your cheek

It was that one extra petal in your pocket ,
The last petal which said

“ You love me”.

No matter how many petals was ever on that daisy.

"You love me"

Such a sweet a tale. I had a childhood sweetheart. We grew up to be best friends. 64 years later I know he still loves me.
