After you forget the reason,
The memory will stay
With you, tightening the threads
That bind your soul every time
The place is mentioned.

I could probably scribble
Names that affect me like that
All the way from shoulder
To fingertips.

So much tension to release...
Wounds to let heal rather than
Allowing aural and visual glimpses
To reopen them.

I hope you learn to let go
Much quicker than I have.
You have many more years
In which to do so than
I now have, so make good use
Of them.

Do not allow your heart
To fill with so much regret
That it loses capacity for love.
