I Live Now

by Jason Hannigan

I once lived alone
With no one else around,
Though the streets were crowded
I laid curled on the ground.

To but a few I opened up
And let see me exist,
Then lonely I lamented
Over experiences I'd missed.

In time I began to stand
Ever so reluctantly
So that I could see the others
So that they could now see me.

Friends made finally new
Gave way to dreams of flair
And yet there was still a yearning
For an essence lacking there.

Truth be told, so much of me
Still in naive winds blew
And helplessly stranded I remained
Until at last I came upon you.

Until at last I understood
As I saw your eyes gleaming:
Friendship gives life substance,
But only love can give it meaning.
