Winter Colour

by Richard Vince

Rose tinted by the chill wind,
Her face is a picture of
Winter. A heavy coat hampers
Her urgency to escape the cold
And return to the warmth
Of home.

Her ears remain pink
Long after the paleness returns
To her face. Contrast is
Marked with dark hair
And light skin.

Heading the same way and
Feeling similar, I probably
Show similar colours,
Changing as I feel winter's
Icy grip release my face.

*
All too soon I must
Face the cold again,
But it is not too far
To the warmth of home.
I skip through stationary
Traffic in my impatience.

She goes on, into the
Premature night of
A December evening.

Beautiful work, man. That ending is damn near heartbreaking.
