cross me off your protagonist list and let me self destruct

by Lauren Singer

picture me the way you want to,
writhing and arched along your bedroom floor.
you don't even have to watch,
because i will be me regardless of your manipulations.

you hate me for that.

i dropped the shield and wore the wounds proud
and it wasn't for the sake of provacation.
little did you know i hate the way the genes have molded
an over-indulgent scenario of listless nobodies lurking
petulantly in corners seeking a thrill in a temporary hole.

i could never be the outlet of some frustrated vent,
and so if i'm exhausting every remote scenario you have
placed me in amidst your drenched and undistinguished pile of
half-hearted concerns,

count me out.
pity's the second cousin to a slow death.

"pity's the second cousin to a slow death." Amen.

take it from someone who's been here before, just take a break from these jerks, clean them all out, and learn to love only those who treat you right. enjoy being young while it lasts, don't waste it on these jerks, they aren't worth it, they only make you think they are because they are liars.
