Heavenly Bugbear

by Jeffrey Parren

As the house music
Beats through my mind
I stand next to the speaker
With you by my side.

Within this moment
Resonates happiness
Beating in and out feverishly
Never could I imagine this.

We have travelled back in time
Before any wrongs done
Finding a mutual ground
Once again we are one.

But, unfortunately, now,
We live this nightmare
And my heart is out of love,
Heavenly bugbear.

Author's Note: I hate rhyming but slant rhymes seem better to me and this is not horrible, yet the truth of the matter is the poem is real.

One of the things I lke a lot about this is the central line and point that the poem revolves around-- "Never could I imagine this." That's great. Standing in the present looking back into the (transformed) past, the music blaring, hearts racing and the doubt about what the heart is capable of... "bugbear" is a charming keyword, petword for the whole thing, and fun in the title, as well as the end.
