nothing's meant to last besides dynamic nature

by Aaron Michael

again, a door slamming
my face bruises over again
like countless times before
and to come and to be forever
familiar sting and all
the marks it leaves are never
identical, though it's
the same door that hits every time.
it's the only one i never see coming.

first and forever is supposed to be static
but you can't count on anything to
stay for a blink and a breath longer
than it can and i'm running out of excuses
to believe that i can hold the world together
through sheer will and favors.

scotch tape has to place in today's society
and i'm held together with less.
i breath dreams and live a fantasy,
and there is no reason to believe otherwise
unless it falls to pieces.

and when it tumbles, it will be in accordance
with the sound of a door slamming shut.
