Salvage Operation by Aaron BlairEverything after this is a salvage operation.
You leave what you cannot lift
on the bottom of the ocean floor.
And what happens when
the weight of anything is unbearable?
When something as free of substance
as the fall of sunlight on your shoulders
feels like a few thousand feet of water,
a depth so oppressive even photosynthesis gives up?
I will only ever carry what I can.
I will let go of all of my burdens and watch them float away. 01/30/2007 Author's Note: My health issues just keep compounding.

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/31/07 at 07:00 AM This is so very well expressed, and wise. The sentences are abstract and yet metaphorical, surreal and yet experiencial. The morrot--of dropping what one cannot carry, the resolve to " let go of all of my burdens and watch them float away" is the essence of wisdom, whatever has driven you to this enlightenment. Excellent poem.
