why i'm still here

by Ymelda Ramirez

that day you stepped out of the car
ready to walk away and say no more
i backed up
chased you so you'd stay
you looked down on me
PITY AGREED

i sit here and i wonder
had i been strong
had i not chased you
would we still be
i think i would have called
PITY AGREED

i'm glad i chased you
time keeps count of how long
i've had you
the next time you're ready to escape
love
will i chase you
PITY AGREED

I like the use of the last line in each stanza. It made for a very interesting style and voice, which I think you pulled off amazingly well. Great work.

You say yes but your poem expresses doubt. If you chose this particular refrain, it would seem that you are questioning it...
